Autoimmune Hepatitis and Ayurvedic Perspective - Dr. Jaya Daptardar

$15.00 $10.00

Abstract: The liver is endlessly filtering and detoxifying the blood and it plays a significant role in digestion and metabolism. But the liver also synthesizes protein, produces critically important enzymes and hormones, breaks down and recycles tired blood cells, and regulates glycogen storage. As our primary organ of detoxification, the liver has the important job of protecting the deeper tissues from impurities in the blood that might otherwise cause harm. However, over-exposure to toxins such as alcohol, prescription or recreational drugs, environmental pollutants, and the like, has the potential to adversely impact the liver itself. The liver possesses a remarkable ability to heal and rejuvenate itself. This is something that sets the liver apart from other organs and tissues. But if we want the liver to repair itself efficiently, we must offer it periodic rest. This resource is intended to provide some practical guidance on how to encourage the overall health and rejuvenation of the liver—both in our daily lives and in more focused periods of cleansing and detoxification.

Autoimmune Hepatitis - An overview in Ayurveda - Dr. Seeta Birader

$20.00 $10.00

Abstract: Autoimmune hepatitis, formerly called lupoid hepatitis, is a chronic, autoimmune disease of the liver that occurs when the body's immune system attacks liver cells, causing the liver to be inflamed. Common initial symptoms include fatigue or muscle aches or signs of acute liver inflammation including fever, jaundice, and right upper quadrant abdominal pain. Individuals with autoimmune hepatitis often have no initial symptoms and the disease is detected by abnormal liver function tests Anomalous presentation of MHC class II receptors on the surface of liver cells, possibly due to genetic predisposition or acute liver infection, causes a cell-mediated immune response against the body's own liver, resulting in autoimmune hepatitis. This abnormal immune response results in inflammation of the liver, which can lead to further symptoms and complications such as fatigue and cirrhosis. The disease may occur in any ethnic group and at any age, but is most often diagnosed in patients between age 40 and 50.

Managing liver problems by traditional Ayurveda medicines - Dr. C.M. Sreekrishnan

$20.00 $10.00

Abstract: The liver is precisely called the engine of the body. It plays a pivotal role in the manufacture, storage and regulation of essential compounds. We can survive only one or two days if it shuts down. If the liver fails, our body will fail too. Fortunately the liver can function even when up to 75% of it is diseased or removed. This is because it has amazing ability to create new liver tissues. that is it can regenerate itself, from healthy liver cells that still exist. Currently there is no artificial organ or device capable of emulating all the functions of the liver. it does hundreds of vital things to make sure everything runs smoothly. The liver is among the most complex and important organs in the human body. Every second the liver cells go through thousands of complex biochemical interactions that influence all the other organs in the body. Its complexity that makes the liver more to become problematic, when we are neglecting its importance to prevent and cure its problem at the early stage itself. There are more than 500 functions are doing by the liver daily to protect our body. Of among them detoxification and metabolism is the important functions. The liver supports every organ in the body and is vital for survival. Because of its strategic location and multidimensional functions, the liver is also prone to many diseases. The term liver diseases can apply to many disorders that cause the liver to function improperly or cease functioning. When the liver is unable to meet with over function, due to over expose of more and more toxins both internal and external that cause liver damage. That precipitates as general weakness to chronic liver diseases. Nowadays due to change of life style especially the food alcohol over medication infection etc the liver problems are increasing. Our traditional Healthcare especially healthy food is to protect the liver from over toxicity. So that their function may be maintained. but due to the new lifestyles our body is especially the liver is subjected to do overwork in detoxification and metabolism. When is beyond its control the liver will become damage. By some simple drugs and healthy food habits we can protect the liver, improve liver function and manage liver problems very easily. Ayurveda describe the function of liver and its problems clearly in (Yakruth roga). The treatment methods in modalities are described in Ayurveda for preventive as well as curative of liver problem. Pitta vitiation due to Garbha Peedan can be consider as cholestasis due to increasing amount of estrogen, progesterone in third trimester and mechanical pressure exerts by growing fetus on biliary drainage. Liver is consider as seat of Pitta, thus liver preparations with Pitta Shamaka and Pitta virechak properties potently break the etio-pathogenesis of ICP by channelize the flow of bile. Clinical Evidences in support of above analysis are also proved that liver preparation played a significant role in management of ICP.

Turmeric / Curcumin for the healthy liver and prevention of liver diseases - Dr. Nagabhushan Moolky

$20.00 $10.00

Abstract:  The liver is an important organ like the heart, lungs, and kidneys. Ayurveda gives prime importance to the liver because it is actively involved in vital functions, digestion, and nourishment of other organs. Turmeric has been used for over 10,000 years (Saraswati Civilization) in India. Turmeric is a mild digestive, aromatic, stimulant, and carminative. Turmeric decreases Kapha, balances tridosha, and is used to remove mucus in the throat, watery discharges like leucorrhea, and any pus in the eyes, ears, or wounds and used for wound healing. Turmeric has been used for conditions such as liver obstruction and jaundice. Roasted turmeric has been used as an ingredient in a preparation used for dysentery. Boiled dried rhizome water decoctions have been taken orally in Ayurvedic medicine to reduce inflammation. Turmeric is also regarded as a Rasayana. Turmeric is an important major spice used around the world as a common medicine and in food preparation. The yellow coloring active compound in turmeric is curcumins (2-5%), which have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. 1n 1984, Dr. Nagabhushan Moolky for the first time showed that turmeric (Curcumins) has antigenotoxic and cancer-preventing properties. Curcumins inhibit multi-stages of cancer formation, Initiation (DNA damage/mutation) promotion (enhancing the DNA damage), progression (cancer formation), and transformation (malignant tumors). In 1987, Dr. Nagabhushan has shown that ingestion of 1g/turmeric decreases urinary excretion of mutagens in cigarette and bidi smokers. These findings are also important in unhealthy liver-induced skin diseases, liver cancer, and drug metabolism. Earlier, shown that turmeric and curcumins inhibit aflatoxin B-induced mutagenicity/carcinogenicity, a natural food contaminant, that causes liver injury and cancer. Several preclinical and clinical scientific studies have shown the beneficial effects of turmeric/curcumins in liver health and diseases. It prevents oxidative damage, liver injury by xenobiotics, chemotherapeutic drugs, excessive alcohol consumption-induced liver injury, fatty liver, nonalcoholic fatty liver, hepatitis virus A, C - induced damage, cirrhosis & fibrosis, antivirus, and aflatoxin-induced liver cancer. COVID19 infection results in multiorgan failure, including hepatic damage. Hyper coagulation of blood, change in glucose metabolism, and liver fibrosis. Turmeric/curcumins are hepatoprotective, prevent hepatic damage, anti-thrombotic (Reduces clotting of blood), hypoglycemic, and prevents liver fibrosis. Recent clinical trials show that aspirin (75-100mg/day) reduces clotting and reduces death in COVID19 patients. Long-term use of aspirin causes ulcers and bleeding, whereas curcumins are safer to use. Dr. Nagabhushan for the first time (1997) has shown that curcumin improved ex-vivo hypothermic preservation of the liver, which may be useful for human tissue/solid organ transplantation. Because of immunosuppression, in liver transplant patients, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) becomes active and induces uncontrolled proliferation of B- cells. This leads to the development of non-Hodgkin lymphoma, which is detrimental to transplanted organs and patients. Curcumin inhibits EBV-induced, cyclosporine-A (CylA) promoted human B-cell proliferation and malignant transformation. Curcumin also inhibits CylA resistant activation of T lymphocyte activation and proliferation of human lymphocytes. Another important aspect of Curcumin is it reduces graft vs host disease.

Yoga for Liver Detox - Master Kamal Srinivas

$20.00 $10.00

Abstract:  The liver’s job is to detox but if it becomes overloaded with toxins due to unhealthy eating, excess alcohol, prescription drugs, excess carbohydrates, and excess fructose could cause chronic damage to the liver, called liver toxicity. These toxins in the bloodstream can travel to the brain and temporarily (or sometimes permanently) affect brain function. Twisting yoga poses offer many benefits, including detoxing our bodies. With proper alignment, twist variations can also reduce back pain and improve digestion. Master Kamal shares his experiential knowledge in treating fatty liver and detoxification of liver with specific yoga postures, breathing, and liver detox mocktail techniques to drastically remove toxins from the liver, improve liver health, and which in turn will help remove toxins from your entire body.

Liver detoxification through Panchakarma - Dr. Sakshi

$20.00 $10.00

Abstract:  As a culture, we seem to be increasingly liver-conscious—ever more aware of the importance of a healthy liver. This attention is well deserved. Without question, the liver is one of our most vital organs. Endlessly filtering and detoxifying the blood, the liver plays a significant role in digestion and metabolism. It also synthesizes protein, produces critical enzymes and hormones, breaks down and recycles tired blood cells, and regulates glycogen storage. Ayurveda describes the liver as a fiery, hot organ. Qualitatively speaking, this fact alone signals a close relationship between the liver, agni (the fire principle), pitta dosha, and the energy of transformation.

Holistic approach to NFLD- Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease - Dr. Asavari Manvikar

$20.00 $10.00

Abstract:  Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the buildup of extra fat in liver cells that is not caused by alcohol. It is normal for the liver to contain some fat. However, if more than 5% – 10% percent of the liver's weight is fat, then it is called a fatty liver (steatosis). Ayurveda considers the liver as the main organ where pitta dosha, the fire element is located. Digestive fire (Pachakagni) manifests in seven forms called dhatwagnis. Food is converted into ahara rasa by pachakagni or digestive fire. Then Ahara rasa is converted into seven body tissues. Since the liver is the main organ where the metabolism of fat happens, fat deposition in the liver impairs every metabolic activity. Diet and lifestyle changes along with appropriate herbs can be helpful in improving metabolic functions and liver health. During the presentation, we will discuss a chronic case of NAFLD that improved with holistic interventions.

Intra-hepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy (ICP) and Ayurveda - Dr. Nilofar Shaikh

$20.00 $10.00

Abstract:  Intra hepatic cholestasis (ICP) is the second most common cause of jaundice in pregnancy. The stasis of bile with rise in conjugated bilirubin is probably due to excess circulating estrogen. Genetic, familial and abnormal progesterone metabolism have been observed. The manifestations of ICP usually appear in the last trimester. The onset is insidious and Pruritus is the primary clinical symptom of ICP. There may be weakness, nausea, slight jaundice or even vomiting are found with pruritus. There is rise in the levels of AST, ALT and serum alkaline phosphatase. There are increased risks of preterm labor, low birth weight babies, IUFD , meconium stained liquor and postpartum hemorrhage. The features of Intra hepatic cholestasis subside within two weeks postpartum. In ayurveda, treatment of Garbhini Kamala (Jaundice during pregnancy) is described in Kashyapa Samhita. The drugs who have Mridu pita virechaka (Mild laxative) and Raktashodhaka (Blood Purifiers) properties may help to reduce the symptoms of Intra hepatic cholestasis during last trimester.

Biliary colic and calculi and Ayurvedic interventions - Dr. Sathyanarayana Dornala

$20.00 $10.00

Abstract:  Gallstones are collections of solid material (predominantly crystals of cholesterol) in the gallbladder. The liver can secrete too much cholesterol, which is carried with bile to the gallbladder, where the excess cholesterol forms solid particles and accumulates. About 80% of people with gallstones do not have any symptoms for many years, if ever, particularly if the gallstones remain in the gallbladder. Gallstones may cause pain. Pain develops when the stones pass from the gallbladder into the cystic duct, common bile duct, or ampulla of Vater and block the duct. Then the gallbladder swells, causing pain called biliary colic. If gallstones cause disruptive, recurring episodes of pain, surgical removal of the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) is only the option. Clinical experiences establish that Ayurvedic drugs along with dietary modification are an alternative to the surgical management of biliary calculi.

Acne vulgaris & its formulations in ayurveda - Dr. Jyoti Gangwal

$15.00 $10.00

Acne vulgaris & it’s formulations in Ayurveda

Abstract: Acne vulgaris is an extremely common skin disorder that affects all individuals at least once

during life. The incidence of acne peaks in teenagers, but substantial numbers of men and women between 20-40 years of age were also affected by the disorder. Acne vulgaris is a skin condition that occurs when hair follicles are blocked with dead skin cells, bacteria, and oil (sebum). The blocked follicles cause blemishes on the skin, including pimples, blackheads, whiteheads, and cysts. Acne vulgaris also known as common acne, one of its main causes is hormones, especially around puberty. Most acne occurs on the face, chest, back, and shoulders. Symptoms can be mild, moderate, or severe. If not treated promptly, both moderate and severe acne can result in scarring. Acne vulgaris is caused by a combination of hormones, oil, and bacteria. During puberty, a hormone called androgen increases and the sebaceous glands produce more of the oily substance sebum. Typically, sebum and dead skin cells come up through the hair follicles and out through the pores in the skin. When sebum, skin cells, and bacteria clog the follicles, the sebum can’t escape through the pores, which causes acne. Physicians may suggest one treatment or a combination, depending on the severity of acne. Mild acne may be able to be treated with over the counter topical medicine in creams, gels, and washes with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. In Ayurveda herbal cosmetics are now getting more important as their side effects are comparatively less than that of a synthetic one. Different plant parts such as leaves, stems, bark, wood, rhizomes are used in cosmetics. Azadirachta Indica (Neem) containing creams possess a wide range of pharmacological properties especially as Antibacterial, Anti-inflammatory.

Onychomycosis (Nail fungal infection) & Ayurveda - Valentina Robertson

$15.00 $10.00

Onychomycosis (Nail Fungal Infection)

Abstract: The Ayurvedic study of skin diseases is unique in that it allows the practitioner to assess and address the conditions precisely, as they are easily observable and the medicine can be applied directly. The skin, being our outermost layer of protection from the environment, is a clear reflection of the state of Ojas. The skin can be the place where an aggravated dosha relocates and manifests or the tissue where opportunistic microorganisms decide to live. In the case of onychomycosis, even though dermatophytes are responsible for the infection, Ayurveda is more concerned with the root cause of the condition: the health of the digestion and the immune system (a function of Ojas). While Western medicine focuses on killing the pathogen, Ayurveda’s approach assures that the body itself is able to fight the infection and prevent it from reoccurring. This presentation explores the Ayurvedic treatment of nail fungal infections including the use of diet, herbs, and general lifestyle to support immune function.

Acne Vulgaris and ayurvedic management - Dr. Jaya Daptardar

Acne Vulgaris and Ayurvedic Beauty Therapies

Abstract:  Acne is a common skin disease. It occurs when pores of the skin are clogged with oil, dead skin and bacteria if untreated. It is a sign that something is imbalanced in your body which reflects on the skin. Ayurveda believes that the Tidoshas (three pillars vata, pitta and kapha) in the form of tissues (dhatu) control all the activities in the body. Aggravation of dosha is the main reason of the eruption of the acne. Acne vulgaris more found in adolescence when there is an access secretion from oil glands. According to Ayurveda distortion in the vata dosha and phlegm (kapha) causes further distortion of the blood or rakta dhatu. Vata when gets vitiated due to the unhealthy diet and lifestyles, affects other two doshas Kapha and Pitta to aggravate them. Aggravated pitta affects rakta dhatu or blood. The vitiated blood affects the skin and causes excess secretion of oil from sebaceous gland. Acne due to pitta vitiation are generally red, soft, small and tend to be aggravated in hot weather. Aggravated Kapha imparts the stickiness to the oil produced by sebaceous gland of the skin. Thus the thick sebaceous plugs are formed in the skin pores and hair follicles leading to eruption of acne teenagers are more prone to develop acne.

Abstract:  Kustha roga are often stubborn and recur. Because the skin represents all tissue layers and reflect the health of a cross-section of the 7 dhatus, it is important to begin healing skin diseases by assessing the mind, the gut and the skin and treating all simultaneously. Assessment of old injuries that may have altered the tissue metabolism, or current issues in the diet or lifestyle impact the healing of skin diseases. Recurring diseases reflect the gut and sometimes very old wounds or imbalances that require deep cleaning through pancakarma or treatments unconventional to mainstream medicine. What is not written explicitly in the text (tantrayukti) is the deep role of incompatible combinations of ahara-vihara-aushadham (diet-lifestyle-medicines) in aggravating all doshas to create skin illnesses.

Visarpa triggers to Amlapitta - Maryna Stasiuk

$15.00 $10.00

The causes, symptoms, and management of Visarpa triggered by Amlapitta

Abstract: According to Caraka, ‘Visarpa is a serious disorder afflicting like cobra venom spreading various parts of the body very quickly’. It could be correlated to herpes simples virus (HSV), Herpes zoster (Shingles), Erysipelas. They caused by different viruses/ bacteria and could vary in Lakṣaṇas (symptoms) but have similarities in their hetu (causative factors) and Saṃprāpti (Pathogenesis). Visarpa is affecting Rakta (blood), Lasika (plasma), Tvak (skin), Maṃsa (muscle tissue). One of the causative factors of Visarpa mentioned by Charaka is the suppression of vomiting generated in the condition of Urdhvaga Amlapitta that reached the stage of vitiating the blood. This situation could be correlated to GERD or acid reflux. Due to prolonged digestion and aggravation of Pitta dosha, the sour element in the food increased during the digestive process. In the chronic conditions or high severity of the disease, the sour element could enter the blood and spread all over the body giving rise to Visarpa. The following cases will show the resemblance and chikitsa of Visarpa that was correlated to two different diagnoses (Shingles and HSV) and got rise after the chronic or severe Amlapitta.

Estrogen deficient Skin problems and Ayurveda - Dr. Vandana Baranwal

$15.00 $10.00

An ayurvedic approach to Estrogen deficient Skin problems in Menopausal Women

Abstract: Menopause is a critical period in a woman’s life characterized by declining ovarian function and decreased serum estrogen levels. Estrogen deprivation in postmenopausal conditions accelerates many skin changes, including dryness, atrophy, fine wrinkling, and poor wound healing. Studies show that at tissue level the skin ageing due to endogenous factors and hormonal changes shows excessive dryness, Malpighian layer thinning, microcirculation disorders, collagen or elastin fiber degradation and simultaneous glycation, decreased speed of sebum and perspiration secretion. Characteristically menopause in Ayurveda is signified by degeneration and decay associated with increased Vata. These changes are called Nishpratikriya- changes that can not be resisted. Ayurveda is holistic and individualistic in its approach. Rasayana (rejuvenating) and Vayah-Sthapaneeya (age- stabilizing) herbs and multimodal approach of Ayurveda brings a ray of hope.

Ayurvedic Management of Eczema (Vicharchika): A case study

Abstract: In the Ayurvedic text, all skin diseases are included under the Kushtarog and are classified into Mahakushta and Kshudrakushta. Vicharchika is described under Kshudrakushta. The clinical presentation of Vicharchika is similar to Eczema in modern dermatology. Eczema (also called atopic dermatitis) is characterized by dry, itchy skin with areas of poorly demarcated erythema and scale. In the acute phase, Eczema may be vesicular and oozing; in the chronic phase, it may become hyperpigmented and thickened. Virruddha Ahar causes Agnimandya. Agnimandya leads to incomplete digestion and fermentation and produces Ama leading Tridoshdushti and Kled formation, leads to Mansa dusti, Twakdusti, and Raktadusti and causes Vicharchika. This presentation aims to understand and assess the symptoms of Eczema, implementing the Ayurvedic treatment principles, planning a treatment protocol, and assessing the disease by Ayurveda through a case report.

Abstract: Vitiligo is a condition in which the skin loses its normal color or it can be fold as pigment cells (melanocytes). This condition starts from a spot like condition which may get bigger areas with time in any part of body. In Ayurveda it is called Shvitra or Kilasa which is also termed as Shveta Kustha in the group of Kustha or skin diseases. In clinical practice Pratisarana & Lekhana kriya followed by external application of cream & lotion were found effective. Skin manifestations in Hypothyroidism - Ayurvedic Management

Abstract: Skin is the largest sense organ of our body and is the main index of the internal environment of our body. Thyroid abnormality is one such pathology which produces skin manifestations along with other symptoms. Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism produce different dermatological manifestations which sometimes may pose a challenge to the dermatologists. Dry skin, hyperkeratosis, hair loss are a few dermatological symptoms of hypothyroidism. Hypothyroidism cannot be directly correlated to any disease in Ayurveda. Depending on the symptomatology it can be understood as kapha avruta udana vata. Adoptation of kapha vata balancing chikitsa, avarana chikitsa and rasayana chikitsa helps to check the main pathology. This in turn also pacifies the associated symptoms. Yet dermatological manifestations need a special focus and intense management due to their cosmetologically importance. Ayurveda blesses the mankind with several drugs and procedures which help to tackle the cutaneous manifestations in a more simple and natural way. All the medicines and treatment procedures will be discussed in the presentation.

Abstract: Shwetra (Vitiligo) is a skin disease which takes longer time to cure. It affects the external beauty of the body causing social stigma, shyness, loss of confidence, fear of comments marital problems, etc. The disease needs repeated shodhana and regular internal and external shaman chikitsa for longer duration. Objectives: To study the efficacy of Vishakalpa (Shwetra lepa) alone in the management of Shwetra and to provide a potent drug for sure and quick relief from Shwetra (vitiligo), this pilot study was carried out. Material and methods: Shwetra lepa was prepared and used as local application in 15 patients having newly diagnosed patches of vitiligo. The changes in shape, size and number of patches and VETI score was assessed before and after treatment. The data was analyzed with the help of parametric and non parametric tests. Results: Though there was no significant change in VETI score, minimal reduction in shape and size of patches, daha and kandu was observed with Shwetra lepa vati. Conclusion: One month study duration for local application of Shwetra lepa vati and sample size was found to be insufficient to prove the efficacy of Shwetra lepa. Hence it is recommended that Shwetra lepa should be used alone for longer period up to 6 to 9 months or it can be used along with repeated shodhana and continuous shamana chikitsa for 2 to 6 months for effective results.

Vitiligo and ayurvedic perspective - Dr. Asif Mohammed

$15.00 $10.00

Vitiligo- An Ayurvedic perspective with special reference to Svitra

Abstract: Ayurveda considers the skin as a mirror of ones pathology. Acharya Sushruta describes the seven layers of the skin in which origin of different skin disorders are explained. According to Ayurveda, Bhrajaka Pitta is responsible for the normal color of the skin. This correlates to the Melanocytes situated in the skin. This cells produces Melanin pigment through a complicated process called Melanogenesis that is catalyzed by tyrosine and other related proteins. The production of Melanin is hampered, loss of color is observed over the skin. This particular condition is considered as Vitiligo, which can be correlated with Svitra originated in Vedini, 5th layer of skin. My present topic is exploring and addressing the different treatment therapies done practically by various authors, clinicians and traditional vaidyas all over the country. Detail description will be done during presentation.

As per the embryonic development of skin and Nervous system both are ectodermal in origin and this very fact was well known to our ancient Acharyas. Regarding the treatment modalities one should follow the fundamental principles of Ayurveda-Ahara (Diet), Nidra(Sleep) and Brahmacharya (Code of good conduct). The matter in detailed shall be discussed and be presented.

Post inflammatory Hyperpigmentation - Dr. Priyanka Gupta

$15.00 $10.00

Role of Ayurveda In Treating Hyperpigmentation

Abstract: Body’s largest organ “Skin”, covers the entire body and serves as a protective shield against heat, light, injury, infection and regulates body temperature. Skin has 7 layers as per ayurveda. Each layer extends itself to the deeper levels of the body and that is the reason most skin diseases are rooted deeply into various dhatus or tissues. The most common and major skin diseases that are seen are acne vulgaris, hyperpigmentation, psoriasis, eczema and urticaria. Skin diseases happen when the 3 doshas are out of balance. Ayurveda has an effective concept of understanding skin disorders. These skin diseases/disorders can be treated naturally with panchakarma therapy, ayurvedic herbal remedies, dietary changes, topical remedies and even stress management techniques. Ayurvedic treatment for Hyperpigmentation goes to the roots of the problem and treats it according to their cause. In Ayurveda, enhances complexion, blood purification are few terms specifying skin lightening. The unique, effective, and long lasting concept of skin lightening in Ayurveda has led to the emergence of Ayur cosmeceuticals. The herbs which alleviate pitta, rakta in general either acting through their rasa, vipāka or prabhāva are considered as varṇya. It may take a few weeks to show up signs of improvement, but you can be sure about its permanent solutions.

Diet, Lifestyle, Herbs in Skin Disease - Dr. Aruna Patki

$15.00 $10.00

Ayurvedic Diet ,Lifestyle and Herbal Management For Skin Disorders (Psoriasis, Eczema)

Abstract: Skin the largest organ of our body which always connected and exposed to the environment 24/7. It is a primary organ visible to the world and connected to he emotions . Skin diseases are very common these days with the sedentary , lifestyle, pollution and food style. Modern and Contemporary science offers only limited medications to treat skin diseases and Ayurveda instead offers wholistic approach to treat and bring the balance back in skin disorders. Understanding of Doshiic dominance, nature of the skin lesion, assessment of Agni, mala, ama and doshic level becomes important criteria while treating skin diseases. So knowledge of different causative factors, diet also plays a important role apart from panchkarma (purification therapy) for a successful treatment. Common to see is Psoriasis which is one of the most common human skin diseases. Psoriasis is a chronic, proliferative, and inflammatory skin disease. Majority of the dermatological disorders have been described under the roof of Kushtha in Ayurveda. Psoriasis is mostly comparable with two varieties of kshudrakustha ie. Eka Kustha and Kitibha Kustha and also with a variety mahakustha i.e., Sidhma Kustha. Due to the close resemblance, the treatment procedures along with various formulations mentioned in skin disorders of Ayurveda can be applied in psoriasis which adds new dimensions in management of such a chronic and complex disease. This presentation will help us to elaborate the understanding of different skin diseases, assessment method, different criteria, treatment principles and discuss about the successfully treated cases through ayurveda. Ayurveda has given lot of importance to maintenance of health during various season. So following particular panchakarma procedures and taking proper herbs during this seasons are good for maintaining healthy skin. Another one process rather than Shamana and Shodhana Chikitsa mentioned by various acharyas but Vagbhata Acharya states lepan as the prathama primary chikitsa. Psoriasis is mostly comparable with two varieties of kshudrakustha ie. Eka kustha and Kitibha Kustha and also with a variety mahakustha i.e., Sidhma kustha. Due to the close resemblance, the treatment procedures along with various formulations mentioned in skin disorders of Ayurveda can be applied in psoriasis which adds all new dimensions in management of such a chronic and complex disease. Psoriasis is a chronic, non-contagious disorder which affects the skin and joints, characterized by flaking, redness and inflammation of the skin. Once thought to be a skin disorder, psoriasis is now understood to be a condition originating in the immune system. The, scaly patches caused by psoriasis called, psoriatic plaques, are areas of inflammation and excessive skin production. Skin rapidly accumulates at these sites and takes on a silvery-white appearance. Plaques frequently occur on the skin of the elbows and knees but can affect any area including the scalp and genitals. In contrast to eczema, psoriasis is more likely to be found on the extensor aspect of the joint. Having worked with numerous clients for over twenty years, in my experience I have understood that Diet and lifestyle changes play the most important role in the management of Psoriasis. Lets re - learn diet and lifestyle and herbs to maintain skin health, by building immunity, so that prevent skin disease and promote happiness & longevity! Whole person Healing Approach. Topic: Clinical Diagnosis and management of Karnini Yoni vyapad with special reference to Cervical Erosion

Abstract: Ayurveda has two fold objectives. One is to maintain the positive Health and second is to eradicate the disease. Gynaecology is the study of woman but usage restricts it mainly to the study of female organs of reproduction and their diseases. Pregnancy is one of the most unique, exciting and joyous time in a woman’s life. After completing entire nine months of gestation period baby is delivered. Due to straining during labor in the absence of labor pains, the vayu obstructed by fetus, withholding kapha and getting mixed with rakta produces Karnini in yoni, which obstructs the passage of raja. Due to presence of Karnika ( a small muscular ball), this condition is termed as Karnini yoni vyapad by Acharya Charaka in Charaka Samhita, Chikitsa sthana, 30/27,28. Common symptoms are vaginal discharge with other symptoms like weakness, pain in back and calves, loss of vital fluids, the pruritis on and around the vulva, thighs and pelvic joints. It can be treated by combined effect of oral medication and local therapy. Use of shodhan varti, tampons, and uttarbasti, yoni prakshalana (douche) is the main treatment. Depending on the signs and symptoms Karnini Yoni vyapad can be correlated with Cervical Erosion in modern.

Topic: Female Infertility and its management through Ayurveda

Abstract: Infertility is a serious issue in the present socio-cultural scenario. Infertility, as per modern science is defined as inability to conceive even after one year of normal marital relations without use of contraception. In Ayurveda, this condition is termed as Vandhyatva and there are four factors which are responsible for healthy conception, namely Ritu (appropriate time of conception), Kshetra(healthy uterus and vagina), Ambu (proper nutrition of mother) and Beej(healthy ovum & sperm). Among all health issues, infertility is one of the main health issue due to changing lifestyles nowadays. The number of infertility cases are increasing day by day due to changing lifestyles, junk foods, socio-economic causes, tremendous amount of stress, worries, tensions etc. Nearly 10-15 % of the individuals belonging to the reproductive age group are affected by Infertility. Conception depends upon the fertility potential of both the male and female partner. Male is directly responsible for about 30-40% cases, while female is responsible in about 40-55%. About 10% cases are found due to incapability of both the partners. In remaining 10%, the cause of infertility is unexplained.

Topic: Non-surgical ayurvedic management of Subcutaneous Lipoma - An experimental study

Abstract: Āyurveda is a holistic science that aims to show the right path to attain puruṣarthās. The medium through which these puruṣarthās can be attained is a health body and mind. A person can only be called healthy if he possesses a healthy body along with a healthy mind. Diseases affecting the body invariably affects the mind & vice versa and results in ill-health of the patient. One best example of such a disease is Medaja granthi i.e Lipoma. Even though a physical disease i.e mainly affecting the body, it also affects the mind as it results in cosmetic disfigurement of the body, especially for women when lipoma is located over the exposed body parts like arms, forearms, neck or face. Due to beauty-related issues the social stigma associated with this may lead to anxiety, inferiority complex, and also severe depression in long-standing cases. The most accepted conventional line of treatment of lipoma in contemporary science is surgical excision of the swelling which is limited by the risk of scarring and recurrence. Āyurveda provides solutions to various ailments where contemporary science fails to give a permanent cure, provided the condition is properly understood as per the classics and treated as per the classical line of treatment given by our ācharyas. With the same intention, the present experimental study was taken up to dig out a permanent solution from our ayurvedic classics to treat subcutaneous lipoma.

This pathology was identified thousands of years ago by the stalwarts of Ayurveda as the singular important cause that begins either in mind or in the body and is capable of causing acute or chronic diseases and irreparable damage to the system. The statement holds good even today. In this presentation we will take an overview of both the modern and Ayurvedic views on the issue. Abstract: Acharya Charaka says that a physician can accomplish the desired results if he duly initiates action after having full knowledge of the subject. Charaka in around 2nd B.C. has elaborated scientific methods of patient examination. This approach to patient examination is very practical and scientific. Most important of all these Methods is a patient, who constitutes the site for the administration of therapies with a view to bringing about equilibrium in the Body. The patient should be examined so as to obtain knowledge regarding the span of life, strength and the intensity of morbidity. Because, it is on the basis of the intensity of morbidity that the dosage of the therapy is determined and the latter is dependent upon the strength or the power of resistance of the individual. Therefore, the patient should be examined with tenfold examination methods described in ancient Ayurveda Texts.

Topic: Face mask and human health

Abstract: Dr. Nagabhushan Moolky, Ph.D., C.N.S., Usha Kolpe, MD** & Arnav Shandilya* Senior Scientist, Health Coach, Expert Witness, Independent Consultant – Nutrition & Toxicology, Oakbrook, Illinois, USA.**VA Hines Hospital, Maywood, Illinois, USA *Neuqua Valley High School, Naperville, Illinois, USA. Around 1000 BCE, Ayurvedic Surgeon Sushruta, the father of surgery and Ayurvedic Physician Charaka, the father of medicine, described how a disease spread from person to person and within communities in Sushruta samhita and Charaka samhita. Both recognized that by following certain hygienic practices the spread of infection could be prevented. Breathing, touching and eating/drinking contaminated food/beverages is the main cause of spread of disease resulting in mass destruction of human life in a short period of time. Sushruta developed several surgical techniques and appropriate instruments for surgery. He was the first to use a face mask to prevent spread of pathogens during surgery. Charaka was the first one to suggest the use of cloth (Plain or herbal treated) to cover the face (Nose and mouth) to prevent spread of pathogens. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of wearing a face mask to prevent the spread of the coronavirus was recognized by health experts, health care workers, and communities. At present (October, 2020), there are no vaccines or drugs specifically to prevent infection and cure the disease. The only way is social distancing, detection of infected and isolation and wearing a face mask. Face mask is the physical barrier and non pharmaceutical way of preventing contracting disease. The face mask prevents droplet carrying virus transmission by filtering inhaled and exhaled air. This measure reduces the critical mass of the virus that are required to manifest disease in a person. Exposure to certain small amounts of a virus may induce favorable host immunity, May enhance the formation of herd immunity in a community. There are a variety of face masks. Face mask not only filter viruses, microbes, pollens and dust particle but also acts as barrier to spray of mouth saliva and nasal droplet's aerosol. Single-use surgical masks used by healthcare workers are very efficient, filtering 80-99% of viruses. However, these are expensive and also generate enormous waste. Multiple-use face masks are made from cloth with multiple layers and pleats and are less expensive with less efficient filters (60-70%). They are reusable after cleaning and sanitization and will hence reduce created waste. Multiple-use face masks are overall the best option to be used by the public community. Some face masks also come with copper salts and other material impregnations, which increase their efficiency in preventing disease contraction. There are also Ayurvedic face masks made from hand-woven cloth, muslin cloth, silk, and khadi. These face masks are soaked with medicinal plant decoction that have antiviral properties. Turmeric for example exhibits antiviral activity in cell culture towards many human viruses, Mouse Mammary tumor Virus, in mouse model (Dr. Nagabhushan Moolky, 1987), Human Epstein Barr Virus (EBV) (Dr. Nagabhushan Moolky, 1997), Human Papillomavirus (HPV), Human T-lymphotropic virus-1 (HTLV1), Ebola virus, Norovirus, Chikungunya virus, Dengue fever virus, Zika virus, H1N1 virus, Japanese encephalitis virus, Herpes simplex virus type 1 & 2 (HSV–1 & 2), Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV1), HIV2, Influenza A virus and Hepatitis B & C virus. A molecular docking study has shown that the active compound of turmeric curcumins has the potential to kill COVID-19. Making home made Turmeric Face Mask is simple and inexpensive. Boil turmeric powder in water for 10 minutes. Add few drops of virgin coconut oil and lemon juice. Both virgin coconut oil and citric acid in lemon juice has anti vital activity. May enhance the antiviral activity turmeric(Curcumins). Dip the cloth face mask. Dry after washing or without washing. Drying not to be done in direct sunlight. Copyrighted by Dr. Nagabhushan Moolky

This particular quote provides the reference of long term use of swarna bhasma, which is known to balance tridosha. Swarna Bhasma is used for increasing non-specific innate immunity and in the treatment of a wide range of diseases. It also acts as an adjuvant for various medicines and herbs

and boosts their actions and increases their efficacy. According to Ayurveda, it is a good nervine tonic and improves overall health. It increases lifespan, intelligence, memory, skin glow, and prevents several diseases. Also, it increases strength and endurance and improves mental as well as physical performance. Gold is more than just an expensive yellow metal. Scientific exploration of broad-spectrum and multidimensional effects of gold will establish it as an essential trace element. Understanding its basic chemistry, clinical pharmacology, therapeutic applications, and current evidence is essential and will be discussed in the lecture.

Topic: Ayurvedic Approaches to a Healthy Mind, Role of Sleep & Yoga

Abstract: Ayurvedic Approaches to a Healthy Mind, Role of Sleep & Yoga. Dr. Nagabhushan Moolky, Ph.D., C.N.S. Usha Kolpe, MD** & Arnav Shandilya*. Senior Scientist, Health Coach, Expert Witness, Independent Consultant – Nutrition & Toxicology, Oakbrook, Illinois, USA., **VA Hines Hospital, Maywood, Illinois, USA, *Neuqua Valley High School, Naperville, Illinois, USA.

From the beginning of Bharat civilization around 12,000 years ago, the scientific and philosophical analysis of the human mind and behavior and their effect on human health, happiness and evolution were revealed. Ayurveda, the traditional medical system (5000 years old), originally written by Charaka and Sushruta around 400 BCE describes diseases and treatment methods and medicines. Ayurvedic practices also include mental health – diseases, prevention and treatment. Yoga (12,000 years old) is one of the systems that prevent mind from unnatural deviations. Such a mind creates/enhances the chance of diseases and unhappiness.

Some religious and cultural practices were incorporated in our daily life, and are not recognized as Yoga: Performing prayer, surya namaskar (sequence of 12 asanas with mantras of gratitude to sun, the life force) and uddanda namaskar during puja or when seeing Gurus (teachers), elders, and parents. In order to be happy, we should show gratitude. In previous generations of education, students were asked to do bhaski as punishment (now labeled as Superbrain yoga). It is now scientifically shown that performing bhaski maintains the balance between left and right hemispheres of the brain, and thus normalizes brain hyperactivity. Yoga nidra is also a well known yoga sequence that benefits both body and mind with much needed relaxation.

Another relaxation form is Shiva asana, commonly and incorrectly labeled shavasana. Shiva means dynamic, while shava means corpse/no life force. Yoga is a dynamic action to integrate body & mind. The Bhagavad gita mentions “Samatva yoga”. This asana integrates mind and body and makes unity of life force with minimal activity. The performer is still alive and conscious, but is not stimulated internally or externally. These preventive methods are straight forward, simple, not time consuming and can be performed by all ages. Finally, there are ayurvedic diets, plants, and shastriya formulations that are also recommended and beneficial for mental health.

Topic: Ayurvedic psychotherapy with special focus on Sattvavajaya chikitsa

Abstract: Ayurveda describes life as a complex coming together of Body (Sarira), Senses (Indriyas), Mind (Sattva) and Soul (Atma). An imbalance in either of these can lead to disease. Definition of health in Ayurveda includes not just harmony in physical and physiological body but also a blissful state of the mind. Accordingly and appropriately so, Ayurveda adopts a psychosmatic as well as spiritual approach to well-being as well as disease alleviation. Ayurvedic psychotherapy is astonishingly well developed, intricate and layered. Vaidya Pratibha Shah will present some of the key principles of psychotherapy in Ayurveda with a special focus on Sattvavajaya chikitsa (reigning in of the Mind).
