Topic: Clinical Diagnosis and management of Karnini Yoni vyapad with special reference to Cervical Erosion
Abstract: Ayurveda has two fold objectives. One is to maintain the positive Health and second is to eradicate the disease. Gynaecology is the study of woman but usage restricts it mainly to the study of female organs of reproduction and their diseases. Pregnancy is one of the most unique, exciting and joyous time in a woman’s life. After completing entire nine months of gestation period baby is delivered. Due to straining during labor in the absence of labor pains, the vayu obstructed by fetus, withholding kapha and getting mixed with rakta produces Karnini in yoni, which obstructs the passage of raja. Due to presence of Karnika ( a small muscular ball), this condition is termed as Karnini yoni vyapad by Acharya Charaka in Charaka Samhita, Chikitsa sthana, 30/27,28. Common symptoms are vaginal discharge with other symptoms like weakness, pain in back and calves, loss of vital fluids, the pruritis on and around the vulva, thighs and pelvic joints. It can be treated by combined effect of oral medication and local therapy. Use of shodhan varti, tampons, and uttarbasti, yoni prakshalana (douche) is the main treatment. Depending on the signs and symptoms Karnini Yoni vyapad can be correlated with Cervical Erosion in modern.
