Visarpa triggers to Amlapitta - Maryna Stasiuk
The causes, symptoms, and management of Visarpa triggered by Amlapitta
Abstract: According to Caraka, ‘Visarpa is a serious disorder afflicting like cobra venom spreading various parts of the body very quickly’. It could be correlated to herpes simples virus (HSV), Herpes zoster (Shingles), Erysipelas. They caused by different viruses/ bacteria and could vary in Lakṣaṇas (symptoms) but have similarities in their hetu (causative factors) and Saṃprāpti (Pathogenesis). Visarpa is affecting Rakta (blood), Lasika (plasma), Tvak (skin), Maṃsa (muscle tissue). One of the causative factors of Visarpa mentioned by Charaka is the suppression of vomiting generated in the condition of Urdhvaga Amlapitta that reached the stage of vitiating the blood. This situation could be correlated to GERD or acid reflux. Due to prolonged digestion and aggravation of Pitta dosha, the sour element in the food increased during the digestive process. In the chronic conditions or high severity of the disease, the sour element could enter the blood and spread all over the body giving rise to Visarpa. The following cases will show the resemblance and chikitsa of Visarpa that was correlated to two different diagnoses (Shingles and HSV) and got rise after the chronic or severe Amlapitta.
