Management of Dandruff in Ayurveda
Abstract: Dandruff is a skin condition that mainly affects the scalp. Prevalence of Dandruff in population varies between30 -90%.Its been considered as Darunaka in Ayurveda which is a kapha vata dominated tridosha disease. Dryness of the scalp, itching and white scaling are the main clinical features. Dandruff is usually associated with hair fall. Vitiated vata and kapha dosha cause itching and flaking patches on the scalp thus scalp sheds larger than normal amount of dead epidermal cells, which manifests the condition called Dandruff. Ayurveda line of treatment is to pacify kapha and vata doshas through herbal medicine as well as lifestyle plan. Antifungal and hair nourishing herbs have proven its affect in managing the same.
