Topic: Ayurvedic Chrysotherapy : from concept to clinical practice & current evidences
Abstract: Therapeutic use of Gold is known as Chrysotherapy or Aurotherapy or simply Gold therapy. Gold is one of the most non-reactive metals known to mankind till date. It will not impart any harmful effect on the human body and will lie inert. Gold is known to be extremely bio compatible edible metal and does not interfere with the physiology of the human body. In contemporary literature, the history application of Gold in therapeutics is traced back to a maximum of 100 years; whereas in Ayurveda it is ancient. Swarna Bhasma or Gold Ash is a therapeutic form of gold metal of nano-sized particles that is one of the most treasured ayurvedic medicine. // na sajjate hemapange padmapatre ambuvat visham // (AHSu.7) In a person who has been given Gold bhasma for a long time, the poison cannot do any harm, similar to a water drop that cannot touch the leaf of the lotus. This particular quote provides the reference of long term use of swarna bhasma, which is known to balance tridosha. Swarna Bhasma is used for increasing non-specific innate immunity and in the treatment of a wide range of diseases. It also acts as an adjuvant for various medicines and herbs
and boosts their actions and increases their efficacy. According to Ayurveda, it is a good nervine tonic and improves overall health. It increases lifespan, intelligence, memory, skin glow, and prevents several diseases. Also, it increases strength and endurance and improves mental as well as physical performance. Gold is more than just an expensive yellow metal. Scientific exploration of broad-spectrum and multidimensional effects of gold will establish it as an essential trace element. Understanding its basic chemistry, clinical pharmacology, therapeutic applications, and current evidence is essential and will be discussed in the lecture.
