Vitiligo- An Ayurvedic perspective with special reference to Svitra
Abstract: Ayurveda considers the skin as a mirror of ones pathology. Acharya Sushruta describes the seven layers of the skin in which origin of different skin disorders are explained. According to Ayurveda, Bhrajaka Pitta is responsible for the normal color of the skin. This correlates to the Melanocytes situated in the skin. This cells produces Melanin pigment through a complicated process called Melanogenesis that is catalyzed by tyrosine and other related proteins. The production of Melanin is hampered, loss of color is observed over the skin. This particular condition is considered as Vitiligo, which can be correlated with Svitra originated in Vedini, 5th layer of skin. My present topic is exploring and addressing the different treatment therapies done practically by various authors, clinicians and traditional vaidyas all over the country. Detail description will be done during presentation.
