Topic: Innovative minimally invasive and non invasive therapies in Janu Sandhighata Vata vis-a-vis Osteoarthritis


Abstract: Sandhigata Vata is the commonest form of articular disorder which mainly occurs in vriddha avastha due to dhatu kshaya which limits every day activities such as walking, bathing, standing ,etc. thus making patient disabled. The disease usually affected in the fourth decade, and the occurrence increases linearly with the age. It is a degenerative joint disease characterized by loss of articular cartilage, synovial inflammation, reduced joint space, osteophytes, joint stiffness, swelling, pain and loss of mobility being its hallmark symptoms. The disease has its priority to affect the weight bearing joints such as the knee and hip most commonly and is hence a potent cause of disability. In Ayurveda effective treatment procedure is mentioned for Janu Sandhigata Vata which aims to prevent and cure for the disease. Janudhara and Asthishrunkala upanaha is such modalities of treatment. Application of heat by pouring hot oil and the warm herbal paste induces oleation and sudation and hence brings about the desire benefits of the snehana and swedana therapy. This brings at most benefits in treating all signs, symptoms and brings tremendous change in radiological evidence of Janu Sandhigata Vata vis-à-vis osteoarthritis Knee joint . The drugs used in present study are freely available at our back yard, easy to prepare and easy to apply, hence this study had proved its efficacy by scientifically. So that it can propagated to community health for prevention and cure of Janu Sandhigata Vata vis-à-vis osteoarthritis Knee joint in early stage.
