Abstract: Acne is a common skin disease. It occurs when pores of the skin are clogged with oil, dead skin and bacteria if untreated. It is a sign that something is imbalanced in your body which reflects on the skin. Ayurveda believes that the Tidoshas (three pillars vata, pitta and kapha) in the form of tissues (dhatu) control all the activities in the body. Aggravation of dosha is the main reason of the eruption of the acne. Acne vulgaris more found in adolescence when there is an access secretion from oil glands. According to Ayurveda distortion in the vata dosha and phlegm (kapha) causes further distortion of the blood or rakta dhatu. Vata when gets vitiated due to the unhealthy diet and lifestyles, affects other two doshas Kapha and Pitta to aggravate them. Aggravated pitta affects rakta dhatu or blood. The vitiated blood affects the skin and causes excess secretion of oil from sebaceous gland. Acne due to pitta vitiation are generally red, soft, small and tend to be aggravated in hot weather. Aggravated Kapha imparts the stickiness to the oil produced by sebaceous gland of the skin. Thus the thick sebaceous plugs are formed in the skin pores and hair follicles leading to eruption of acne teenagers are more prone to develop acne.
