Abstract: Epigenetics is the study of heritable changes in gene expression (active versus inactive genes) that do not involve changes to the underlying DNA sequence — a change in phenotype without a change in genotype — which in turn affects how cells read the genes. The literal meaning of the term epigenetic is “on top of or in addition to genetics.” Accumulating evidences proves that there are many factors which modulate the system or process of epigenetics; which are grouped together and named as SEEDS by Dr Sathya N Dornala. The acronym includes Sleep (Nidra), Exercise (Vyayama), Environment, Education (spiritual), Diet (Ahara) and Stress (Vichara) & Social connectivity. Of which three factors Ahara, Nidra and Brahmacharya are collectively known as “Trayopastambha” (Three life supporters). Pattern of epigenetics is like double edged sword. These factors may cause harmful epigenetical changes when SEEDS are not properly maintained and conversely gives highly beneficial effects when SEEDS are duly followed.
