Agni, Ama and Allegies - Dr. Shubhamangala Acharya
Allergy is an exaggerated immune response to inert substances. The usual symptoms - pruritus, rash, urticaria, angioedema, vomiting, abdominal cramping, dyspnea, bronchospasm, stridor, and syncope. Ayurveda believes that impaired digestion leads to imbalanced doshas which cause allergies. The Agni attains vishamavasta due to the vishamaashana or viruddha ahara which forms ama. Accumulation of ama is the main cause for the allergies to develop. By assessing the saama dosha and treating with ama pachana dravyas, later balancing niraama dosha and at the end improving the immunity by rasayana and advising healthy ahara vihara to the individual one can cure the allergies.
