Chronic Fatigue Syndrome in Teenagers: Ayurvedic Perspective - Dr. Sweta Verma
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), also known as Myalgic Encephalomyelitis . It’s a complex, multi-system illness most common in teenagers aged 12 to 18. It is characterised by extreme, unexplained fatigue that severely impacts daily activities like school, sports and social life. While modern medicine views its causes as complex and multifactorial and of unknown etiology, Ayurveda offers another perspective, attributing the condition to profound depletion of Oja (vital essence) and Bala (strength). Symptoms like "brain fog" and pain are attributed to an imbalance of the Vata dosha. Therefore, a holistic approach is crucial, combining modern multidisciplinary care with Ayurvedic principles of restoring Oja and calming Vata through diet and lifestyle to help teenagers regain their well-being.
